Linda Noskova Wins Wimbledon 2026, Defeats Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3
JAKARTA - Czech tennis player Linda Noskova (21) made history by winning Wimbledon 2026 after defeating compatriot Karolina Muchova (29) with 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in London, Sunday WIB, and became the youngest Wimbledon champion in the last 15 years.
At 21, Noskova became the youngest Wimbledon champion since Czech legend Petra Kvitova, who won her first title at the All England Club in 2011.
"This will really be something I will remember forever, but maybe I need a few days to really realize it," Noskova said as quoted by the WTA website on Sunday.
Noskova and Kvitova became the two Czech tennis players who managed to win the Grand Slam final in their debut at Wimbledon.
Noskova won her first Grand Slam after taking advantage of the opportunity in the final match which was tight. This is the most prestigious singles title from the three trophies she has won throughout her career.
In addition to bringing home the Venus Rosewater Dish trophy, Noskova will also rise to seventh in the world.
Meanwhile, Muchova is projected to be ranked sixth in the world, which is also the best achievement in his career.
This is the second time that Muchova lost in a Grand Slam final after the 2023 French Open.
The top-of-the-line party between tennis players in the women's singles at Wimbledon is rare. The last time this happened was when Serena Williams beat Venus Williams in 2009.
Noskova is now the fifth Czech to win a Grand Slam singles title and the third Czech woman to win Wimbledon in the last four years.
The match was dramatic. Noskova dominated the first set after breaking his opponent's serve twice.
Muchova bounced back in the second set by saving three championship points while trailing 2-5, breaking Noskova's serve, then saving the fifth championship point before winning five straight games to force a deciding set.
"My coach said, if I need time, take the moment to refocus," Noskova said.
After losing the second set, Noskova took a short break before the deciding set. On the way to the locker room, she saw the Venus Rosewater Dish trophy, which was the source of her motivation to refocus.
Noskova then controlled the third set to secure the victory and confirmed herself as the 2026 Wimbledon champion.
