Volkswagen and Xpeng Develop ID. Unyx 09, 496 HP Electric Fastback Using CATL Battery
JAKARTA - Volkswagen together with Xpeng is developing the ID. Unyx 09 as a high-performance electric fastback with up to 496 horsepower. Fastback is a form of car with a sloping roof line to the rear. The large-sized model is scheduled to launch in China in the second half of 2026.
Quoted from CarNewsChina, Saturday, July 11, the specifications of the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 appear in the Batch 409 regulatory catalog of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
This model is the second vehicle developed through a strategic partnership between Volkswagen and Xpeng. The car targets the premium electric vehicle segment of medium to large size.
ID. Unyx 09 has a length of 5,081 millimeters, a width of 1,980 millimeters, and a height of 1,509 or 1,526 millimeters, depending on the variant. The wheelbase reaches 3,030 millimeters.
The long wheelbase gives more space under the floor for battery cell placement.
ID. Unyx 09 is available in two drive system options. The single motor variant uses a rear-wheel drive with a peak power of 230 kilowatts or 308 horsepower.
The highest variant uses two motors and all-wheel drive. The front motor produces a peak power of 140 kilowatts or 188 horsepower.
The motorcycle is combined with a rear unit so that the combined peak power reaches 370 kilowatts or 496 horsepower.
The power is supplied by a lithium iron phosphate battery or LFP made by CATL. The battery cells are then assembled into a complete package by Volkswagen Anhui Components.
Even though its empty weight reaches 2,307 kilograms, the two-motor variant is capable of reaching a top speed that is limited to 200 kilometers per hour. The single-motor variant has an empty weight of 2,207 kilograms.
The ID. Unyx 09 design features a wide body, aggressive front, and firm rear wheel arches. The car uses 21-inch sport rims combined with Brembo brake calipers.
The one-motor variant offers a panoramic glass roof as an option. Both variants can also be equipped with an electronic toll payment device or ETC that is installed directly from the factory.
The gross weight of the vehicle reaches 2,760 kilograms.
Lighting technology is one of its main features. ID. Unyx 09 uses high-resolution matrix lights with a digital light processing system.
A series of laser-engraved interactive LED lights can project the driving lane and vehicle width markers onto the road surface. The feature is designed to help drivers when driving at night or when visibility is limited.
ID. Unyx 09 continues the lineup of ID. Unyx products developed for the Chinese market.
Previously, Volkswagen presented the ID. Unyx 07 crossover with a starting price of 110,204 yuan or around 16,200 US dollars.
The lineup was then expanded through the ID. Unyx 08 SUV, a model that strengthens the development cooperation between Volkswagen and Xpeng, with a target price starting at 226,530 yuan or around 33,300 US dollars.
ID. Unyx 09 is the second model developed jointly by Volkswagen and Xpeng and brings the collaboration to the high-performance passenger electric car segment.
