Proven to Bribe Customs Officials, Owner of Blueray Cargo Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison

JAKARTA - Blueray Cargo owner John Field was sentenced to 2 years in prison after being proven to have given bribes related to the alleged corruption case in the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance in 2025-2026.

Presiding Judge Brelly Yuniar Dien stated that John was proven to have given bribes to Customs officials in total of Rp91.77 billion, together with the Operational Manager of the Blueray Cargo Port Clearance, Dedy Kurniawan, and the Head of the Blueray Cargo Import Documentation Team, Andri.

"Declaring the defendants to be legally and convincingly proven guilty of participating in ongoing acts of corruption, as charged in the primary indictment," said the Chief Justice in the verdict hearing at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court, Friday, July 10, reported by ANTARA.

The Chief Judge explained that the bribe was given with the aim that Customs would try to get the imported goods belonging to the Blueray Cargo Group out of the supervision process at the Customs Directorate General of Customs.

A little different from John, the Chief Justice gave a lighter prison sentence to Dedy and Andri, namely 1 year and 6 months (1.5 years) each.

In addition to the fine, the three defendants were also sentenced to a fine, with details of John amounting to Rp. 300 million subsider 100 days in prison and Dedy and Andri each Rp. 200 million subsider 80 days in prison.

Thus, the three were found guilty of violating the crime stipulated in Article 605 paragraph (1) letter ajuncto Article 20 letter c jo. Article 126 paragraph (1) of the National Criminal Code jo. Article VII number 48 of Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustment.

Before sentencing, the panel of judges considered several aggravating and mitigating circumstances. The aggravating condition is that the actions of the defendants are contrary to the government's efforts to eradicate corruption.

Then, the actions of the defendants were considered to have lowered public confidence in the Directorate General of Customs and Excise and the Ministry of Finance in general.

Meanwhile, the mitigating circumstances that are considered are that the defendants are straightforward, admit, regret, and will not repeat their actions; have never been convicted; and have a wife, children, and family who are their responsibility.

The panel of judges considered that the actions of the defendants were a criminal act, but it could not have been entirely from the initiative of the defendants.

"The act was also triggered by circumstances that were deliberately conditioned by the Bea and Customs officers, whose goal was to make the defendants' business in the cargo sector hampered and potentially decline and suffer losses," said the Chief Judge.

The verdict handed down by the panel of judges was slightly lighter than the prosecutor's demand. Previously, John Field was charged with 3 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 300 million with a 100-day prison sentence, while Dedy and Andry were each sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of Rp. 200 million with a 80-day prison sentence.
