IISAR 2026 Officially Opened, 28 Countries Collaborate to Strengthen SAR Technology in Indonesia
JAKARTA - Indonesia is strengthening its position as an international collaboration center in the field of search and rescue. This is marked by the official opening of the Indonesia International Search and Rescue (IISAR) 2026 event at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE), PIK 2, Tangerang, on Thursday (9/7/2026).
This international event, which lasted for four days, brought together various stakeholders from within and outside the country. In addition to discussing the challenges of rescue operations in the era of climate change, IISAR 2026 also became a stage for introducing the latest SAR technology.
Anticipating the Impact of Climate Change in the Ring of Fire Region
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno assessed that the implementation of IISAR 2026 is very relevant to Indonesia's geographical conditions. The high risk of disasters in the Ring of Fire region and the increasing threat due to climate change require full preparedness.
"We must always be on alert for increasing uncertainty. There is an increasing climate change, Indonesia is also an archipelago and is in the Ring of Fire. Hydro-meteorological disasters also continue to haunt us," said Pratikno when opening the event.
Pratikno emphasized that strengthening search and rescue operations could no longer rely on old methods. The use of the latest SAR technology must go hand in hand with improving the quality of human resources and the empathy of officers.
"In rescue, minutes are very valuable to save lives. Therefore, all parties - from Basarnas, TNI, Polri, government, to volunteers - must be able to move quickly," he said.
Implementation of Law No. 29 of 2014 and International Synergy
Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Mohammad Syafii explained that IISAR 2026 was the first implementation initiated as an implementation of the mandate of Law Number 29 of 2014 concerning Search and Rescue.
This event was attended by 28 countries that were involved in various agendas, including:
Scientific Discussion Forum: Exchange of knowledge on international rescue operation standards (ICAO, IMO, and INSARAG). Rescue Capability Competition: Sharing operational experiences between national and international SAR teams in the field. Modern Technology Exhibition: Demonstrating safety innovations from domestic and foreign industry partners."IISAR is a means of communication, education, coordination, and collaboration between all ministries, agencies, international organizations, to the potential of national SAR which have been involved in humanitarian operations," said Syafii.
Latest SAR Technology Exhibition: Open to the Public
One of the main attractions of IISAR 2026 is the technology exhibition which presents almost 57 booths from various companies and institutions.
A number of industry giants such as PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) and Bell Helicopter also took part in showcasing cutting-edge innovations, ranging from emergency communication technology to air, land, sea, and underwater rescue equipment (underwater).
Schedule and Visitor Information:
Location: Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE), PIK 2, Tangerang. Time: Every day, from 11.00 to 19.00 WIB. Access: Open to the public (online registration). On the first day, Basarnas recorded that there were around 1,500 visitors who registered online.
IISAR 2026 founder, Candra Tri Saktiyanto, hopes that this event can broaden public understanding that the Search and Rescue industry has a major role in the safety of daily activities, not only during major disasters.
"The territorial boundaries only separate countries, but the value of humanity always unites our goals. Hopefully IISAR will be an important milestone in strengthening global collaboration in the field of search and rescue," concluded Candra.
