JAKARTA - The sad news came from the world of politics and national business. Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives and a figure from Gorontalo, Rachmat Gobel, died in Jakarta on Friday, July 10 at around 04.00 WIB.

Rachmat Gobel's departure surprised many parties, especially the NasDem Party's large family and the Gorontalo community. The entrepreneur and politician is known as one of the figures who has made a major contribution to the development of his home region.

Rachmat Gobel currently serves as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2024-2029 period from the Gorontalo Electoral District (Dapil). In parliament, he was entrusted as the Chairman of the Group of Fractions (Kapoksi) of Commission VI as well as a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP).

Previously, Rachmat Gobel also served as Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI for the Coordinator for Industry and Development (Korinbang) period 2019-2024. He was also newly appointed as Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of the Gorontalo Province NasDem Party for the period 2025-2030.

Gorontalo NasDem Party DPW official Roni Imran admitted that he was very surprised by the news of Rachmat Gobel's death. According to him, until Thursday night, he was still communicating with the deceased discussing various party agendas.

"We were very shocked by this sad news, because on Thursday night we were still able to communicate with him and report various things," said Roni, quoted by Antara.

Roni said that communication with Rachmat Gobel was almost daily, both when he was in Gorontalo and when the late was in Jakarta.

"I am quite active in communicating with him both directly and by phone. Last night I still had time to communicate. There are no signs that he will die," he said.

Roni, who was at the Jakarta funeral home, admitted that he had read the Yasin Letter next to the deceased's body as a form of last respect.

Rachmat Gobel left behind a wife, Retno Damayanti, and two children.

Condolences also came from the Gorontalo community. Limboto residents, Gorontalo Regency, Rosdian, admitted that they lost a figure who they considered to have great concern for regional development.

"We just enjoyed his work in Limboto. Like arranging the Taman Pentadio Resort and beautifying the Pakaya Tower with many lights that make the tower even more magnificent. I am very sad about his departure," said Rosdian.

He hopes that Rachmat Gobel will be buried in his birthplace so that the people of Gorontalo can give the last respects to a figure who is considered to have served the region.

"We hope that he will be buried in Gorontalo. He is a son of the region who has a major contribution to building Gorontalo," he said.
