Prabowo Says B50 Reduces 44 Million Tons of Emissions, PLN Asked to Start 17 GW Surya
KARAWANG - President Prabowo Subianto said the Mandatory B50 Biodiesel program also strengthened Indonesia's position in reducing carbon emissions. He said the world was starting to see Indonesia because it dared to run an energy program based on its own resources.
This was conveyed by Prabowo during the launch of B50 in Karawang, West Java, Thursday, July 9. According to the President, Indonesia is now being talked about because it is able to maintain fuel prices for small people and implement a low-emission energy program.
"We are being talked about in the world. We are being talked about why we are leading in reducing our carbon emissions," said Prabowo.
Prabowo said B50 could reduce emissions by around 44 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. Carbon dioxide equivalent is a measure used to calculate the impact of various greenhouse gases in the same unit.
"B50, how much emissions do we save? 44 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent," said Prabowo.
B50 is a mixture of 50 percent solar and 50 percent palm oil-based biofuel. The government places this program as part of the energy independence agenda as well as emission reduction.
In addition to B50, Prabowo also touched on the plan to build 100 gigawatt or GW of solar energy. He said PLN would start 17 GW this year.
"This year PLN will start with 17 GW," said Prabowo.
He also mentioned the target of 100 GW of solar energy in two years. Prabowo has repeatedly asked ministers and officials concerned to answer the ability to carry out the target.
In his speech, Prabowo acknowledged that such a big target would face criticism. However, he asked the government to continue to work and find solutions.
According to Prabowo, Indonesia should not be humble in managing energy. He said the country has huge resources, from geothermal, coal, gas, CNG, to solar energy potential.
"We do not underestimate the difficulties, but we continue to prepare ourselves," said Prabowo.
