Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Flies to Iran Tonight to Pay Tribute to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono is confirmed to fly to Iran tonight, to fulfill an invitation to pay tribute to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, revealed this, in line with the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs' plan to visit Iran on July 10.
"The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs will also fulfill the invitation from the Iranian government in the framework of paying tribute to the late His Eminence Ayatollah Sayid Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran," explained Yvonne in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday (9/7).
"The visit of the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Iran on schedule, will depart tonight," he said.
In Iran, Foreign Minister Sugiono is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
"The bilateral meeting between the two Foreign Ministers is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Iran, deepen cooperation in various priority areas, and accelerate coordination between the two countries in facing various regional and global challenges," said Yvonne.
He further explained that this visit will also be attended by the Chairman of the Indonesian MPRI, Ahmad Muzani, who is scheduled to meet with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bager Ghalibaf.
The meeting between the two aims to "strengthen the partnership between parliaments and cooperation between the people of the two countries," said Yvonne.
He explained that the visit, which will also be attended by representatives from the Nahdlatul Ulama General Board (PBNU) and the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, "reflects the relationship between the two countries, and confirms the consistency of foreign policy that is free and active."
It is known that the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a US and Israeli attack on Iran on February 28.
Iran has held a series of funerals for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei since last Friday.
Previously, the Indonesian Ambassador to Iran Rolliansyah Soemirat had also given the last respects to the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
