PIS Announces Pertamina Pride Ship Successfully Passed the Strait of Hormuz
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has confirmed that the Pertamina Pride VLCC tanker has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz safely.
"Following the success of the Gamsunoro ship, the Pertamina Pride ship has also left the Arabian Gulf area and crossed the Strait of Hormuz last night. This means that the two PIS ships that have been held since last March can now resume their journey and operate as usual," said Pjs Corporate Secretary Vega Pita in a statement to the media, Thursday, July 9.
Vega explained that the Pertamina Pride ship started moving on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 13.00 Dubai time (16.00 WIB) and managed to cross the critical area and the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 00.15 WIB. This success also shows that the risk mitigation and operational monitoring carried out by PIS are effective in maintaining maritime safety in the midst of regional dynamics.
"We express our appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, and all parties for their support so far," added Vega.
"Just like the Gamsunoro ship, the selection of the time and route of the Pertamina Pride to cross the Strait of Hormuz has gone through very strict discussions and risk assessments by noting dozens of requirements that must be met. Starting from insurance, technical and operational aspects, security, to crew readiness, so that it was decided that the ship could start moving from the Arabian Gulf.
During the voyage, the ship was monitored for 24 hours. The crew at sea continued to coordinate with the team on land who were on standby at the PIS crisis center to ensure the safety of the voyage.
Vega explained that the entire crew of the Pertamina Pride was in a safe and secure condition. The tanker with a capacity of 2 million barrels of crude oil, also immediately continued the journey to Cilacap to deliver and maintain national energy resilience.
The Pertamina Pride ship is expected to travel for 15 days, and arrive in Indonesia on July 23. PIS continues to intensively monitor the security conditions in international shipping routes and coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure the safety of the crew, the safety of the cargo, and the smooth distribution of national energy.
"PIS expresses its gratitude for the prayers, support, and attention from all communities and stakeholders so that the two ships, Gamsunoro and Pertamina Pride, can sail out of the Strait of Hormuz," concluded Vega.
