Bali Provincial Government Closes Motor Rental Business PMA to Protect MSMEs

DENPASAR - The Bali Provincial Government has closed foreign investment (PMA) for motor vehicle rental business activities to protect local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"Our goal is to revive MSMEs because all of them are the efforts of local MSMEs," said Head of the Bali Investment, Integrated Permit, One Door (DPMPTSP) I Ketut Sukra Negara in Denpasar, Thursday, July 9, reported by ANTARA.

He explained that from the data of the integrated electronic licensing system (Online Single Submission/OSS), the licensed businesses owned by the motor rental PMA are around 150 units.

However, after being traced, for example in the Canggu and Kuta tourist areas in Badung Regency, there are more than 500 PMA units of motorcycle rental businesses operating.

"So the rest is illegal, that's why we just close the motorcycle rental," he said.

As for businesses that have been licensed, he said, they will be built, while those that are not licensed have been determined by the government to be closed.

His party is working with the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) to form a deskinvestasi that oversees and takes action against illegal PMA businesses.

Sukra explained that the PMA that took over the local UMKM business used the virtual office or virtual office service during the process at OSS.

"Unfortunately, the PMA entered through a virtual office, the permit is a virtual office, but in fact they are engaged in motorcycle rental business," he added.

In addition to motor rentals, there are also car and truck rentals, as well as other low-risk businesses such as PMA for fitness clubs (fitness/gym).

In total, he said, there were 56 classifications of Indonesian business fields (KBLI) that were closed, namely 14 medium-low risk KBLI and 42 low risk.

Meanwhile, up to the first quarter of 2026, the realization of investment in Bali reached IDR 13.31 trillion from the target of almost IDR 48 trillion.

The details are, domestic capital investment (PMDN) of Rp9.04 trillion and foreign (PMA) reached Rp4.27 trillion.
