Indian PM Narendra Modi Promises to Prabowo, Restoration of Prambanan Completed Before 2029

SLEMAN - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised President Prabowo Subianto that the restoration and preservation of Prambanan Temple would be completed before 2029.

Modi made the promise when he visited Prambanan Temple with Prabowo in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Wednesday, July 8.

"And today, my friend, President Prabowo, also made me promise him that we will complete this work before 2029," Modi said.

Modi said Prabowo also asked him to come back to Indonesia after the restoration work was completed. He said he was ready to meet the request.

"I promise that after this restoration is completed, I will come back here and celebrate the success of this project with him," Modi said.

Modi called his visit to Prambanan a great honor. He said he had started efforts to preserve and renovate a cultural heritage that is almost 1,200 years old.

According to Modi, Prambanan has a strong relationship with Brahma, Wisnu, and Mahesh or Shiva. He admitted that he felt lucky to be part of the effort to preserve the temple.

"Today, I am honored to begin the effort to preserve and renovate this cultural heritage that is almost 1,200 years old," he said.

Modi also expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian people for taking care of Prambanan with dedication, respect, and devotion.

He said that shared cultural heritage had connected India and Indonesia for more than 1,200 years. This closeness, said Modi, is felt in the lives of Indonesian people, conversations, to the atmosphere he felt while in Indonesia.

"This common cultural heritage has connected us for more than 1,200 years," Modi said.

Modi called Prambanan a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest symbols of shared cultural heritage in Southeast Asia. He believes that the restoration project will make more Indian tourists come to Indonesia.

"This site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and I believe that after this project is underway, more Indian tourists will come here," he said.

In front of Prabowo, Modi also prayed that the friendship between India and Indonesia would be stronger, the people of the two countries would be more prosperous, and the development of the two countries would be fast and sustainable.

He closed his statement by expressing his gratitude to Prabowo for the welcome and assistance during his state visit to Indonesia.
