Karanganyar Red and White Cooperative Coffee Booth Targeting Gen Z Market
JAKARTA - The Red and White Village Cooperative (KKMP) Cangakan, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, does not have an official outlet. Even so, this condition does not dampen the enthusiasm of the managers to start their business line by establishing a coffee shop business.
The business, named Kopi Desa Merah Putih (KADEMPE), was established in the cooperative secretariat environment, right next to the Cangakan Village Office. This new shop serves various popular coffee variants that are popular with the community, ranging from americano, milk coffee, village coffee, to red and white latte coffee.
The Chairman of the Cangakan KKMP, Sigit Danang Jaya, conveyed that all capital budgets to start this coffee shop business unit were purely sourced from the self-help results of the founders of the cooperative. It is known that there are 75 people who are pioneers in establishing the village level cooperative.
According to Sigit, the decision to choose the coffee business is based on current market trends. Coffee is one of the drinks that is very popular among all segments of the community, both young and old.
"So we chose coffee as an alternative to developing one of the KKMP Cangakan businesses," said Sigit to reporters after the opening of the store on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
Explore Other Regional Potential
Regarding other business units in the future, Sigit emphasized that the KKMP Cangakan will continue to follow the programs initiated by the government, while actively exploring potential local potential to be developed as new business units.
He also hopes that their cooperatives will have permanent cooperative outlet facilities like those in other villages in general, as well as operational vehicle support.
This bold step by KKMP Cangakan received positive appreciation from the Acting Chairman of the Karanganyar Regency Cooperative Council, Muhammad Maksum. He hopes that the presence of this KADEMPE business unit will be able to attract the interest and participation of the younger generation.
Moreover, the momentum of launching this independent business unit is considered very appropriate because it coincides with the commemoration of Cooperative Month.
"The hope is that it can become a mainstay of the economy in Cangakan Village as well as to mobilize the people's economy," said Maksum.
Regarding raw materials, Maksum said that currently the supply of coffee used by the shop is still imported from outside the region. However, in the future, it is not impossible for the cooperative to collaborate and partner with local coffee farmers in Karanganyar Regency.
