Japan Open 2026: Indonesia Sends 12 Representatives
JAKARTA - Indonesia has decided to send 12 representatives to face the 2026 BWF Super 750 Japan Open badminton event which will take place next week at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Tokyo.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from July 14-19, 2026. BWF as the international badminton parent provides a total prize of 950 thousand US dollars (USD) or equivalent to Rp. 17.1 billion.
From the men's singles sector, Jonatan Christie dropped as the fourth seed in the event. He was sent along with two youth shuttles, namely Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah and Alwi Farhan, who have collected two Super 500 titles this year.
Meanwhile, the women's singles sector has not been able to have many options for major tournaments since Gregoria Mariska Tunjung struggled with health problems and then withdrew from the PBSI National Championships. Putri Kusuma Wardani must return to carry the burden alone.
The women's and men's doubles have the same strength as the men's singles. Each of the three pairs that were relegated is the best strength Indonesia currently has.
From the men's doubles, the three pairs sent were Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.
Unfortunately, the draw results put the three pairs in the lower half of the chart so that the potential for mutual meetings is large. Sabar/Reza and Fajar/Fikri can meet in the quarterfinals and one of the two pairs will meet Raymond/Nikolaus in the four big ones if they can go that far in their journey.
Next in the women's doubles, Indonesia will send out the pair of Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, and Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum.
The mixed doubles sector is strengthened by the pair of Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu and Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah.
Indonesia so far this year's calendar has not won a title in the Super 750 and Super 1000 level events. Thus, the 2026 Japan Open could be an opportunity to end the title fasting.
