Prevent Accidents on Toll Roads, This Application Reminds Drivers to Rest Every 30 Minutes

JAKARTA - Many road users choose to continue driving in order to get to their destination immediately, even though fatigue and microsleep are one of the factors that can cause accidents on toll roads.

To help road users stay alert, PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has introduced a Reminder Notification feature on the Mozy application that will remind drivers to rest every 30 minutes during the trip.

This feature is part of the company's efforts to build a driving safety culture throughout the toll roads it manages.

In addition to providing periodic reminders, the Mozy application also provides information on the location of the nearest rest area, so that road users can better plan their rest time.

Executive Vice President (EVP) Secretary of Hutama Karya Hamdani said that driving safety is not only determined by vehicle conditions, but also the physical condition of the driver.

"Through the implementation of Microsleep Operation and Sympathetic Operation on toll roads managed by Hutama Karya, we want to increase the awareness of road users that driving safety is not only determined by vehicle conditions, but also the physical condition of the driver," said Hamdani quoted from an official statement, Wednesday, July 8.

Hamdani said that drowsiness, fatigue and forcing the journey were risks that must be avoided.

Therefore, Hutama Karya invites all road users to use rest areas as a place to rest for a moment before continuing their journey.

In addition to presenting digital features, Hutama Karya also routinely holds Microsleep Operations and Sympathetic Operations on toll roads managed as a preventive step to reduce the potential for traffic accidents due to fatigue.

During Operation Microsleep, officers checked the condition of the driver through a number of simple questions to detect signs of fatigue or microsleep.

Drivers suspected of being drowsy will be directed to rest at rest areas before continuing their journey, while those who are still in good condition are welcome to continue their journey while still prioritizing safety.

Meanwhile, through the Sympathetic Operation, Hutama Karya provides direct education to road users regarding the importance of complying with driving rules on toll roads.

Officers also provide safety materials, snacks, coffee, and install reflective stickers on transportation vehicles to increase visibility when driving at night.

According to Hamdani, the safety operation is carried out periodically every month on all toll roads managed by Hutama Karya.

The location and time of implementation are determined based on the results of analysis of vulnerable hours, traffic characteristics, density levels and travel patterns of road users. Thus, activities can be more targeted.

Outside of periodic operations, toll road patrols are also carried out every day. If officers find a vehicle suspected of being driven by a drowsy or fatigued driver, the vehicle will be directed to pull over so that the driver can rest for a while.

As part of the effort to prevent microsleep, officers also gave the driver coffee before continuing the journey.

All road users are urged to always plan their trips well, ensure that vehicles are in good condition, keep their bodies in good condition and not force themselves to drive when they start to feel sleepy or lose concentration.

"Safety must be the top priority, because the best goal of any journey is to get there safely," he concluded.
