Reading Glasses Trend Changes, Gen Z Likes Stylish and Fashionable Models
JAKARTA - Reading glasses are no longer seen as just a tool to clarify vision. Among Generation Z, this accessory is actually part of a style that can strengthen the character to everyday appearance.
Kacamatamoo founder, Michael Oktowinadi, said that changes in consumer behavior have been quite evident in recent years. According to him, young people now prioritize designs that follow trends rather than choosing models that tend to be classic.
"If Gen Z, now more looking for models that are fashionable, changing to follow trends. So not just that," said Michael when met at the 7th anniversary celebration of Kacamatamoo in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 7.
According to Michael, the models currently in demand by young people generally have a more modern design with frame shapes and more diverse colors.
The design or shape can be oval, geometric, cat-eye, to transparent frames that give the impression of lightness and minimalism.
In addition, frames that are slightly larger (oversized), neutral and pastel colors, as well as thin materials made of metal or acetate are also increasingly popular because they are easy to combine with various styles of clothing.
"New models like that are now widely sought after. Even models that are worn every day can be part of a fashion statement," he said.
This phenomenon shows that the function of glasses has shifted. If previously the selection of glasses was more oriented towards medical needs, now the aesthetic aspect is also an important consideration, especially for young people who actively share their activities on social media.
However, following trends does not mean ignoring eye health. The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes the importance of regular eye examinations so that vision disorders can be detected early.
"For the use of these replacement models, in fact, doctors recommend changing them every 6 months and checking the eyes again. But the average Indonesian doesn't do that, it can be once every 2 years," added Michael.

In line with this, a number of optometry professional organizations also recommend that adults undergo eye examinations at least every one to two years, or more often if they have complaints or certain risk factors.
If the results of the examination show changes in lens size, then glasses replacement needs to be carried out so that vision quality remains optimal.
On the other hand, the optical industry is also beginning to adapt to changes in consumer needs. Entering its seventh year, the Kacamatamoo brand is now expanding its business focus from just eyewear retail to a more integrated vision service provider.
This step is carried out through a partnership with Vio Optical Clinic to provide more comprehensive eye examination services, as well as expanding the business reach to a number of Asian countries through MOO Eyewear.
According to Michael, people's needs today are no longer limited to buying frames and lenses, but also include eye examinations, education, and more comprehensive vision care services.
This transformation is expected to answer the increasing awareness of the public about the importance of maintaining eye health in the midst of the trend of using glasses as part of a lifestyle.
