Not Just a Jump Scare, the Soul-Luring Film is Ready to Bring a New Breath of the New Wave of Horror in Indonesia

JAKARTA - The horror film industry in the country is ready to welcome a work that promises the depth of the story. The latest film titled Pemikat Jiwa comes with the ambition of bringing the spirit of new wave horror, a genre that no longer only relies on the appearance of ghosts or jump scares.

Directed by Dom Dharmo, Pemikat Jiwa tries to dig into the darkest side of humans through a mix of psychological drama and strong character studies. The film depicts how the inner pressures, emotions, and dark decisions of its characters become the main motor of the presented terror.

Psychosexual Horror and Folklore Exploration One of the main attractions of this film is its courage to touch the territory of psychosexual horror. This element is born from the depiction of desire, obsession, and obsessive drive to have someone unhealthily.

Even though it contains erotic elements, the production team insists that it is not displayed in a cheap sense. Eroticism here is understood as the tension that arises from the attraction between humans that turns into coercion.

"This film shows that the desire to own can be something scary when it no longer respects the boundaries of others," reads the official statement received by VOI, Wednesday, July 8.

Not only that, the local folklore in the form of pellet science and compassion teaching is the foundation of the story. This makes the horror in The Soul Seducer feel very close to the daily lives of Indonesian people who are still familiar with similar mystical stories.

Short Synopsis: Obsession Leads to Terror

The story centers on the figure of Jay (Fajar Nugra), a chicken seller in the market who harbors love for Wulan (Givina). However, Jay's love is hit by the fact that Wulan already has a prospective husband named Damar (Erdin Werdrayana).

Desperate because his love is not reciprocated, Jay takes a shortcut by using the science of pellets and 'Soul Attractant' teachings. This decision becomes the gateway to greater terror. Wulan, who was originally known to be gentle, slowly turned into a reckless, uncontrollable figure, and was dragged into a terrible dark situation.

The presence of Sasi Geni (Yuni Yasmin) further strengthens the supernatural horror layer in this film, reminding the audience that every dark choice always has consequences that are not easy to stop.

The collaboration of the Soul-binding Production Cross is starred by a row of talented actors such as Fajar Nugra, Givina, Erdin Werdrayana, and Yuni Yasmin. In the producer's seat, there are the names of Shanker R.S and Rama Tribudiman as Executive Producers.

This film is the result of collaboration between Makara Production with NUSA Indonesia Bercerita, Jupiter, Salembe, AZ Film, and SHOW Token, with a script initiated by Nuugro Agung.

For horror lovers who miss stories with deep human conflicts, Pemikat Jiwa is scheduled to be released starting July 9, 2026 in all Indonesian cinemas.
