Banyuasin Mining Worker Shot in the Head, Police Hunt for Perpetrators
PALEMBANG - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Banyuasin Police, South Sumatra, is investigating the alleged shooting using a pneumatic rifle against an employee of a mining company in Paldas Village, Rantau Bayur District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra.
As a result of the incident which occurred on Saturday, July 4 at around 23.00 WIB, the victim with the initials SB (34) suffered serious injuries to the head.
The Public Relations Officer of the Banyuasin Police, Iptu Abu Bakar, confirmed in Banyuasin, Wednesday, saying that the police moved quickly to carry out a series of investigations to uncover the perpetrators and the motives behind the incident.
"We have ordered the Criminal Investigation Unit together with the Rantau Bayur Police to conduct a thorough investigation. All witnesses have been questioned and the crime scene (TKP) continues to be carried out," said Abu Bakar, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 8.
Based on the data collected, the incident began when the victim, who worked as a heavy equipment operator, was resting and having dinner inside the excavator cabin at the Serumpun Mine of PT BCM.
When the cabin door was opened, the perpetrator, whose identity was not known, allegedly immediately fired a pellet gun and hit the victim's left head.
After the incident, the victim was immediately evacuated to the Banyuasin Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for medical treatment. From the initial examination, the bullet projectile was found to be still embedded in the victim's head and was scheduled to undergo projectile removal surgery.
Until now, the police have taken a number of legal actions, including securing the scene, coordinating with the company, examining witnesses, and ensuring that the victim's medical treatment is optimal.
In addition, the police also tightened patrols and security in the PT BCM operational area in order to maintain the security situation and public order (kamtibmas) in the region.
