'Smart Together with GoPay' encourages young people in Bandung to be more financially aware
GoPay collaborates with Multifinance Anak Bangsa to present the "Smart Together with GoPay" education program for hundreds of students at Telkom University, Bandung. This program is a form of commitment to help the Indonesian people be more financially literate through a series of interactive education.
Raising the theme of the influence of social media and mental health on financial decision-making, and packaged interactively, this event presents Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Mirzan Hasan Bisri, as well as psychologist Novy Yulianty, M.Psi., to equip students with the ability to prioritize and understand emotional impulses when transacting.
In the discussion session, Psychologist, Novy Yulianty, M.Psi. said that the financial condition of students is often disturbed by the phenomenon of doom spending, which is impulsive spending as an escape from daily demands. In addition, the high fear of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and FOPO (Fear of Other People's Opinion) in cyberspace also encourages students to pursue excessive social recognition until they are trapped in debt.
"Students must recognize their emotions before making transactions and be able to distinguish between needs or just a moment of prestige. It is important to build self-awareness so as not to make the lifestyle of others on social media a benchmark for personal finances," said Novy, quoted Wednesday, July 8.
Novy emphasized that from the perspective of financial planning, students need to build healthy financial conditions from an early age by recording income and expenses, setting priorities before buying, and setting aside some money. They also need to evaluate the benefits of purchases when they are encouraged to follow trends so as not to interfere with basic needs or trigger debt.
Head of Corporate Affairs GoPay, Audrey P. Petriny said the Smart Together GoPay education program is one of GoPay's efforts to strengthen digital financial literacy in Indonesia.
"Through this event collaboration, we hope that students can build healthy financial habits, use financial services wisely and responsibly, and have the knowledge to make the right financial decisions in the future," he said.
In addition, an educational session was also presented regarding the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of data and account credentials by never sharing OTP, PIN, passwords, verification codes, or other sensitive information with anyone, including parties claiming to be from banks, payment service providers, or official institutions. Participants are also encouraged to always verify the identity of the party who contacted them, especially if there is a request for personal information, transactions, or certain actions that are urgent.
Participants are also invited to increase vigilance against various digital fraud attempts by not clicking links, downloading applications, or opening attachments from unknown or suspicious sources.
The Smart Education Series with GoPay is carried out ranging from financial planning, savings management, to getting to know various types of investments. Since 2019, this program has reached millions of Indonesian people and is presented in both online and offline formats.
