France Ready to Help Rebuild Syria

France is ready to help rebuild the Syrian economy and banking sector, President Emmanuel Macron said during a visit to Damascus on Tuesday.

"We want to continue to work on the restructuring of the banking sector," President Macron said at a joint press conference with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, adding that his country is trying to help the Syrian central bank, AFP, Reuters and Arab News (7/7).

Meanwhile, President Al-Sharaa on the same occasion said he wanted Paris to be a key partner for Damascus, which he said had regained its role as a transit hub after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

"After the Strait of Hormuz crisis, the world realized the value of a safe and stable corridor here, the importance of Syria's geographical location was highlighted, which has now regained its vital role as an indispensable link in the global corridor market, and we want France to be our main partner in this regard," explained President Sharaa.

It is known that President Macron became the first Western leader to visit Syria since the fall of the old ruler Bashar al-Assad in 2024.
