River Normalization to Bank Reinforcement, Brantas Abipraya is Accelerating Post-disaster Recovery in Sumatra
JAKARTA - PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero) has stepped up the rehabilitation and reconstruction of post-disaster infrastructure in West Sumatra and North Sumatra.
The work carried out includes river normalization to strengthen the bank to reduce the risk of flooding and landslides and accelerate the recovery of affected communities.
Corporate Secretary of PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero), Dian Sovana said the company's involvement in rehabilitation and reconstruction projects is a form of state presence through BUMN Karya to accelerate community recovery in disaster-affected areas.
"Every development that we carry out in this post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction program is part of Brantas Abipraya's commitment to provide infrastructure that is more prepared to face disasters, as well as supporting the acceleration of the recovery of people's lives in the affected areas," he said in a statement. official, Tuesday, July 7.
Dian said that the rehabilitation and reconstruction program was carried out by Brantas Abipraya together with the Ministry of Public Works (PU) as part of efforts to support the recovery of national infrastructure.
In addition to repairing damage from disasters, this program also supports the Government's Asta Cita in realizing more resilient, safe, and sustainable infrastructure.
"We are working with the PU Ministry to ensure that every job, from river channel normalization to bank reinforcement, really answers the needs of residents in the field," said Dian.
In its implementation, continued Dian, river normalization is carried out through dredging sedimentation to restore river flow capacity while reducing the risk of flooding.
The work was carried out in Rantobi Village, Batang Natal District, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra, as well as in Batang Bayang, Batang Lengayang, and Batang Palangai, South Coast Regency, West Sumatra.
Meanwhile, the reinforcement of the cliff using a parapet was carried out in Pisang Palah Village, Galang District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra.
This work aims to protect residential areas from the threat of landslides and erosion.
In West Sumatra, the rehabilitation and reconstruction program covers 10 areas, namely the Mentawai Islands Regency, Padang Pariaman Regency, Agam Regency, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, Pasaman Regency, West Pasaman Regency, Bukittinggi City, Payakumbuh City, Pariaman City, and Padang City.
Dian emphasized that rebuilding disaster-affected areas is not only about repairing damaged infrastructure, but also restoring public safety and increasing resilience to potential future disasters.
"We want people in West Sumatra and North Sumatra to feel that this recovery is real, not just physical improvement, but also the restoration of a sense of security and the continuation of daily activities. This is part of the way we serve wholeheartedly for a more resilient Indonesia," he said.
