Yusril: Presidential Decree 111 is the basis for the government to prevent the spread of LGBTQ
MALANG - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra emphasized that Presidential Regulation Number 111 of 2025 is the basis for the government in preventing the spread of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) as part of efforts to prevent moral degradation.
Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the government was obliged to protect the public from various threats that were considered to be able to damage the life of the nation and the state.
"The government has the obligation to protect the people, the entire nation from the threat of moral degradation which will ultimately damage the joints of our social, national, and state life," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 7.
Yusril said the government had categorized the spread of LGBTQ as one of the non-military threats through Presidential Regulation Number 111 of 2025 concerning the General Policy of State Defense.
According to him, the regulation must be respected by all levels of society as part of a joint commitment to maintaining the integrity of the nation from various non-military threats.
He assessed that morality was not only the responsibility of religious leaders and educators, but also required the role of the state.
"Because the 1945 Constitution says that the state protects all nations and the Indonesian blood," he said.
Yusril emphasized that Indonesia is a country based on Pancasila with a society that adheres to various religions.
"The first Sila is the Oneness of God and we believe that there is no religion in our homeland that can provide legality for LGBT," he said.
However, Yusril said the government did not mind if there were parties who wanted to debate the policy, both in the academic and political spheres.
However, according to him, each party also needs to respect the state's decisions that have been set in order to deter behavior that is categorized as a non-military threat.
"If it is allowed to develop in our country, especially if its existence is legalized, I think it will damage the ethics of nationality and become a threat to national resilience," he said.
