IIM and IIT campuses in India are targeted to enter Indonesia, Prabowo encourages students to study in India
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto supports the plan to establish an Indian Institute of Management or IIM campus in Indonesia. He also opened the possibility of establishing an Indian Institute of Technology or IIT in Indonesia.
This was conveyed by Prabowo in a joint statement with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 7. According to Prabowo, educational cooperation is an important part of the relationship between Indonesia and India.
"In the field of education, both Prime Minister Modi and I support the establishment of an Indian Institute of Management campus and also the possibility of establishing an Indian Institute of Technology in Indonesia," said Prabowo.
IIM is known as a leading management education institution in India. While IIT is known to be strong in engineering and technology. The plan for the presence of both in Indonesia can expand higher education options, especially in the fields of business, technology, and research.
Prabowo also supports increasing the number of Indonesian students studying in India.
"We also support an increase in the number of Indonesian students to study in India," said Prabowo.
The educational cooperation runs alongside the cultural agenda of the two countries. Prabowo welcomed the restoration and conservation of the Prambanan Temple Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
He also welcomed the designation of 2026-2027 as the Tagore-Dewantara Year for Indonesian-Indian cultural and educational diplomacy.
"These various initiatives reflect the long-standing ties between Indonesia and India," said Prabowo.
According to Prabowo, Indonesia and India are determined to increase cooperation in the fields of education, research, technology, culture, and people-to-people relations.
Prabowo said the relationship between the two countries was inseparable from the long cultural and historical background. Therefore, Modi's visit to Indonesia is a sign of the two countries' desire to continue to maintain friendship and cooperation.
Outside of education, Prabowo and Modi also discussed health cooperation. Indonesia hopes that opportunities for capacity building for doctors, nurses, and other health workers can be expanded.
"In the future, we are also committed to deepening cooperation in the health sector," said Prabowo.
