DPR Soroti Urgensi Usul Nama Jawa Barat Berubah Jadi Tatar Sunda
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Bahtra Banong said his party would review the urgency of the proposal to change the name of West Java Province to Tatar Sunda, after the proposal was officially submitted.
Bahtra said that until now, Commission II of the DPR had not received an official proposal from the West Java Provincial Government regarding the change of the name of the province.
"What needs to be seen is whether this name change has a really strong substance and why the change needs to be made," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 7.
According to him, the proposal to change the name of the province should first be submitted to the central government because it is related to regional administration.
After that, the DPR will review the urgency and substance of the proposal.
"Whether this name change proposal is necessary or not, we will certainly study it further," he said.
Previously, the discussion of changing the name of West Java Province to Tatar Sunda resurfaced after the West Java DPRD Commission I together with Sunda academics, cultural figures, and historians agreed to continue the proposal to the next legislative stage in an audience in Bandung on Thursday (2/7).
Chairman of Commission I of the West Java DPRD Rahmat Hidayat Djati said the majority of the factions agreed that the proposal should be continued to the legislative process, while the Gerindra and NasDem factions stated that they would follow the forum's decision.
