BNPB: 45 Percent of Land Burned at Jatiwaringin Landfill Successfully Demolished

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed that the progress of extinguishing the land fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA), Tangerang Regency, Banten has shown significant progress with the success of extinguishing 45 percent of the affected area.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said the achievement of the blackout was recorded on the seventh day of emergency handling operations since the fire first broke out at the waste disposal facility.

"The progress of the fire has made significant progress, reaching 45 percent of the total burned area of 14 hectares," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 7.

Abdul explained that in order to accelerate the localization of coal, the local government together with the central government across ministries and agencies continues to synergize to optimize the firefighting operation through a combination of land task forces and air task forces.

A total of 300 joint personnel from various emergency elements were massively deployed to crucial points scattered at the location of the Tangerang Regency residents' final waste disposal.

The joint team consists of elements of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) throughout the Greater Tangerang, BNPB, TNI, Polri, Manggala Agni Task Force of the Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Environment, and disaster volunteers.

The fleet of equipment in the form of 19 fire trucks, four water tank cars, eight excavators, and eight bulldozers strengthened the movement of personnel in the field.

"In addition, the handling tactics were also strengthened by deploying three water bombing helicopters to comb difficult-to-reach areas, as well as two wireless aircraft/drones to monitor the movement of the fire spread," added Abdul.
