Allegedly Violating Ethics, Four Judges in the Nadiem Case Reported to the Judicial Commission

JAKARTA - The legal team for the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, plans to report four judges of the Corruption Court (Tipikor) to the Judicial Commission (KY) on Monday, July 6.

The report was submitted as a form of objection to the course of the trial until the consideration of the verdict in the case of alleged corruption in the procurement of chromebook-based laptops.

Based on the information received, the report was only addressed to four of the five judges who examined and tried the case.

Meanwhile, member judge Andi Saputra was not included in the report because he was considered to still show an independent attitude during the trial process.

The legal team revealed that there were a number of alleged ethical violations that were the basis for the report. One of them is related to the implementation of the trial which took place several times until late at night, even ending at around 00.20 WIB.

According to the legal team, this condition does not take into account the health of the defendant who was ill at the time. They also assessed that the trial was not in line with the provisions in the Circular of the Secretary of the Supreme Court Number 2 of 2026 regarding the regulation of the trial.

In addition, the lawyer also highlighted the considerations in the decision of the panel of judges. They suspect that there is a high level of similarity between the contents of the decision and the documents of the public prosecutor's replik (JPU).

Based on the results of the internal examination of the legal team, some of the substance of the ruling is said to have significant similarities and is suspected of involving the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Not only that, the legal team also assessed that the panel of judges ignored a number of evidence that had been submitted during the trial. The evidence includes witness statements regarding the letter of absolute responsibility (SPTJM), two reports on the results of the 2024 Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) audit which were said to have found no indication of price extravagance, and expert opinions criticizing the method of calculating state losses in the 2025 BPKP audit.

Previously, the Corruption Court panel at the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced Nadiem Anwar Makarim to 10 years in prison on Tuesday (30/6/2026). The former education and culture minister was found guilty in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of chromebook-based laptops.

The plan to report to the Judicial Commission is a follow-up step taken by the legal team after the verdict was handed down. Until now, there has been no official response from the Judicial Commission or the panel of judges regarding the reporting plan.
