The Malacca Strait Must Be Protected, President Prabowo: Indonesia and Singapore Have Common Interests

Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said that Indonesia and Singapore have a common interest in maintaining the Malacca Strait to remain safe, peaceful, and open to all shipping users.

This was conveyed by President Prabowo during his meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, July 6.

President Prabowo emphasized that security in the Malacca Strait is not only related to the smoothness of international shipping, but also concerns the strategic interests of countries in the region.

Therefore, various threats such as pollution, maritime accidents, to piracy must continue to be anticipated through close cooperation. President Prabowo also ensures that Indonesia will continue to coordinate with other coastal countries, including Malaysia and Thailand, to ensure that the Malacca Strait remains open in accordance with international maritime law.

In line with President Prabowo, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated that the two countries have the same strategic interests in maintaining the security of the Malacca Strait and the Singapore Strait as open international shipping lanes.
