President Prabowo Welcomes Indian PM Narendra Modi
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, to begin a two-day state visit to Indonesia.
Prabowo welcomed Modi directly under the steps of the plane at around 17.25 WIB, Monday, July 6. The two leaders then shook hands and walked together through the Jajar Kehormatan Troops before watching the None Kemayoran dance performance.
President Prabowo then introduced a number of officials who also welcomed Modi's arrival, namely Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty.
After the series of greetings, Prabowo escorted Modi to the state car. The two shook hands again and had a brief conversation before Modi left Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base to his place of stay.
Previously, the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be in Indonesia for two nights with agendas in Jakarta and Yogyakarta.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit this time will focus on strengthening a number of pillars of cooperation," Chakravorty said at a press conference at the Indian Embassy as reported by ANTARA.
He explained that the main pillars of cooperation to be discussed include defense and security, trade and investment, food security, energy security, downstream, the development of critical minerals, and capacity building in the fields of health and education.
According to Chakravorty, India and Indonesia have a comprehensive strategic partnership built on long-standing ties and strong civilizational bonds. The challenge ahead is to ensure that the partnership is increasingly relevant and provides tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
According to the agenda, on Tuesday (7/7) President Prabowo and Modi will hold a bilateral meeting which will be followed by a state banquet. After that, Modi is scheduled to give a speech and in the evening attend a meeting with the Indian community in Indonesia.
Furthermore, on Wednesday (8/7), Modi will continue his visit to Yogyakarta before departing for Australia.
