Restore Aceh Connectivity, PU Ministry of Transportation to Improve Permanent Roads and Bridges
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to strive to accelerate the recovery of post-disaster infrastructure in Aceh Province.
This step is carried out through permanent handling of dozens of roads and bridges that are the lifeline of community connectivity.
The effort is aimed at ensuring that transportation access is safe and smooth again. Thus, the mobility of residents and economic activities in various regions of Aceh can return to normal.
Through the Aceh National Road Implementation Center (BPJN), the PU Ministry is currently permanently handling 20 locations in the Aceh West and East Crossings corridors. The handling includes 15 roads and five bridges.
In a number of sections, work is being carried out at more than one point of damage to adjust to the conditions on the ground.
In addition, permanent handling is also carried out at 16 locations in the Central Aceh Cross. The scope of work includes the rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads and bridges, slope handling, river bank protection, structural work, and various other supporting works.
Minister PU Dody Hanggodo ensured that the process of recovering post-disaster infrastructure continued to show positive progress. Various acceleration steps towards permanent recovery are also being carried out in the field.
Dody also ensured that national roads in the Aceh Region had returned to 100 percent functional and that permanent handling of regional bridges continued to be rushed.
"We are also continuing to coordinate with local governments, ministries/institutions and all related parties so that rehabilitation and reconstruction work can run faster and be integrated," said Dody, quoted from the official statement, Monday, July 6.
In the East Corridor, handling was carried out at 17 locations, including 13 national roads and four bridges, including:
1. Beureunuen–Bts. Pidie Jaya/Pidie
2. Bts. Pidie Jaya/Pidie–Meureudu

As for the West Line, the work is focused on three main locations, namely:
1. Genting Gerbang Road Section - Celala - Bts. Central Aceh / Nagan Raya
2. Bts. Central Aceh/Nagan Raya–Lhokseumot–Jeuram
3. Krueng Beutong Bridge
Meanwhile, the handling of the Central Aceh crossing includes 16 locations spread from the Central Aceh, Gayo Lues, South Aceh to Bener Meriah areas.
In addition to repairing roads and bridges, field officers also conduct follow-up disaster risks.
One of the points that shows significant progress in the Central Aceh Cross is the permanent handling of the Lawe Mengkudu I Bridge. As of June 28, 2026, the physical progress of work at the location has reached 83.72 percent and is targeted to be completed by July 31, 2026.
The permanent handling was carried out by dismantling the old bridge that was affected by the disaster.
The structure was then replaced with a new bridge whose construction is much safer and able to support the smooth mobility of the community in the long term.
