Minister of LH: Remaining Burning Area at Jatiwaringin Landfill Only 3.6 Percent
JAKARTA - Environment Minister (LH) Moh Jumhur Hidayat said that efforts to extinguish the fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA), Tangerang Regency, Banten, now only leave about 3.6 percent of the area that is still being extinguished.
The Minister of LH/Head of the Environment Control Agency (BPLH) Jumhur Hidayat during a review on Sunday (5/7) said that on the 6th day of the extinguishing efforts carried out by the central government, local governments, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and the TNI/Polri managed to suppress the area of the area that was on fire drastically.
"Thanks to the hard work of all parties, starting from BNPB, the Tangerang Regency Government, the Ministry of Forestry through Manggala Agni, the Health Office, to the support of various ministries, the fire conditions continue to improve. From around 70 percent of the area that was originally on fire, now only about 3.6 percent. Hopefully, this afternoon or tomorrow it will be completely finished," said Jumhur as reported by ANTARA.
Jumhur explained that this success was achieved through various methods of simultaneous extinguishing, ranging from water bombing, watering and injecting water into the lower layer of the garbage pile, to land extinguishing which is carried out continuously.
The government is also continuing to coordinate to add helicopter support so that the extinguishing process can run optimally.
Although the main fire has been successfully controlled, he reminded that the work is not yet complete. Hot weather conditions still have the potential to trigger a fire again if it is not anticipated properly.
Therefore, all local governments are asked to immediately strengthen mitigation and preparedness measures at each landfill.
"I ask all the regents and mayors who are responsible for waste management to ensure readiness to face El Nino (long drought). Make sure there are no activities that have the potential to trigger fires around the landfill, prepare water sources, bring firefighting facilities closer, and carry out mitigation early," he said.
As a national anticipation measure, the Minister of the Majority also reminded KLH/BPLH to have issued a Circular Letter from the Minister of Environment Number 11 of 2026 regarding Preparedness and Anticipation of Fires in Waste Disposal Sites in Extreme Hot Weather Conditions.
The circular letter serves as a guideline for all local governments in strengthening fire prevention efforts during the dry season.
