British Residents Value the US More Negative Impact on the World

JAKARTA - The majority of British citizens believe that the United States (US) currently has more negative impacts than positive impacts on the world. The findings were revealed in a recent survey by the research institute YouGov which was released to coincide with the 250th anniversary of US Independence Day, Saturday, July 4.

Quoted from Sputnik, the survey results showed that as many as 64 percent of respondents viewed the US as a force that had more negative impacts on the world. Meanwhile, only 9 percent assessed the Uncle Sam's country as having a positive influence, while 11 percent stated that the US could not be categorized as a force that had both good and bad impacts.

This survey also shows significant changes compared to public perceptions during the tenure of former President Joe Biden. In that period, the average respondent who assessed the US as a power with a negative impact was recorded at 39 percent, much lower than the results of the latest survey.

In addition to measuring perceptions of the current situation, YouGov also asked respondents about their views on the history of the United States over the past 250 years since independence from Great Britain.

As a result, 38 percent of respondents assessed that the US has had a positive influence throughout its history. On the other hand, 28 percent think that the country has been more of a source of negative influence over the past two and a half centuries.

The survey also found that there is still a small minority of British people who do not support the independence of the United States from the United Kingdom. As many as 10 percent of respondents said they did not support US independence.

The YouGov survey was conducted on June 10-11, 2026, involving 2,058 adult respondents in the UK. In the publication of the results, YouGov did not list the margin of error or the level of survey error.
