Tie-break drama ends Janice Tjen/Aldila Sutjiadi's fight at Wimbledon 2026
JAKARTA - Janice Tjen/Aldila Sutjiadi at Wimbledon 2026 stopped in the second round after being defeated by Marta Kostyuk/Elena-Gabriela Ruse with 4-6, 6-7(8) at the All England Club, London, Saturday, July 4.
Janice/Aldila gave a tight resistance throughout the match which lasted for 1 hour 49 minutes. However, they failed to force the match to continue to the deciding set after losing dramatically in the tie-break of the second set.
As reported by Antara, in the first set, the Indonesian pair started the match with a 2-0 lead. Kostyuk/Ruse then turned the tide by winning five games in a row.
Janice/Aldila gave resistance until 4-5, but the Romanian-Ukrainian pair won two games after that to close the opening set with 6-4.
Kosyuk/Ruse maintained the momentum at the start of the second set. They broke the serve to widen the lead to 3-0. However, Janice/Aldila bounced back and tied the score at 3-3 before taking the lead 4-3.
Janice/Aldila continued to fight until the match was tight towards the end of the set.
In the 10th game when they were ahead 5-4, Kostyuk/Ruse got several match point opportunities. However, Janice/Aldila saved all of those opportunities to tie the score at 5-5.
The match then continued to a tie-break. Janice/Aldila was ahead, but Kostyuk/Ruse tied the score at 8-8, and won the last two points to end the tie-break with a score of 10-8 and secure the victory.
The match was relatively balanced. Kostyuk/Ruse was slightly ahead in total points by collecting 83 points, while Janice/Aldila got 78 points.
The Indonesian pair recorded a better first service percentage by entering 49 out of 78 attempts or 63 percent. Meanwhile, Kostyuk/Ruse recorded 46 first serves from 83 attempts or 55 percent.
Despite losing, Janice/Aldila appeared more neat by only making nine own mistakes, compared to Kostyuk/Ruse's 14.
The result ended Janice/Aldila's Wimbledon women's doubles campaign after Janice also stalled in the second round of the singles sector.
Aldila is still fighting at Wimbledon after securing a place in the last 16 of the mixed doubles with Argentine Guido Andreozzi.
