Hot, Russia Says Ukrainian "Drones" Hit Oil Depot in St. Petersburg
JAKARTA - Russian authorities said Ukraine had attacked an oil terminal in the Port of St. Petersburg early on Saturday.
The governor of St. Petersburg, Aleksandr Beglov, said the city was the target of a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack. Russian air defense systems have also shot down 72 drones, one of which fell in the Peterhof area.
"The attack hit an oil depot in Kirovsky District. The location of the incident has been fully handled. There were no casualties," said Governor Beglov.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that his country had launched an attack on oil infrastructure near St. Petersburg, the second largest city in Russia.
"Ukrainian defense forces attacked oil infrastructure that brings in revenue for the Russian war, and there were also successful attacks on Kronstadt, an important military target. Its distance from the Ukrainian border exceeds 850 kilometers," Zelensky said on the X platform.
Local Telegram channels also reported a fire at an oil terminal in the Port of St. Petersburg after the latest attack from Ukraine.
Separately, the Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense systems were able to intercept and destroy 389 Ukrainian drones in a number of Russian regions, including Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, as well as the Azov Sea and Black Sea regions.
