Pramono: The issue of Foreign Nationals Refugees is the authority of the Central Government
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung considers the issue of refugees from Foreign Nationals (WNA) who live on the sidewalk of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office on Jalan Setiabudi Selatan, Kuningan, Setiabudi as the authority of the central government.
"The issue of refugees is the domain of the central government," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, July 4.
According to Pramono, if these refugees use the facilities of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government inappropriately, his party will take firm action.
"We will not hesitate to take action and discipline them," he said.
Previously, the South Jakarta Administration City Government (Pemkot Jaksel) disciplined Foreign Nationals (WNA) refugees who lived on the sidewalk of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office on Jalan Setiabudi Selatan, Kuningan, Setiabudi.
"Previously we had carried out a crackdown, but they came back again and many residents complained about their activities because they disturbed public order," said Deputy Head of Setiabudi Sub-district, Rizky Noviana Purnama in Jakarta, Thursday.
Meanwhile, UNHCR's Field Security Associate for Security and Safety Management, Linda, appreciated the efforts of the South Jakarta City Government (Pemkot) in disciplining refugees who set up tents behind the UNHCR office or in the Atrium Mulia Building area.
According to him, refugees have human rights that are protected by international law. However, while in Indonesia, they are still required to comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
"Regardless of their nationality, if there is a violation of the law, the Indonesian security forces have the right to take firm action," he said.
Until now, his party is still trying to find a suitable relocation location for the 32 refugees.
