Iran closes Tehran airspace during Ali Khamenei funeral procession
JAKARTA - The airspace of the Iranian capital, Tehran, will be completely closed on Monday next week for the funeral procession of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
"On Monday (July 6), coinciding with the funeral procession of the late revolutionary leader, the airspace of Tehran will be completely closed, and no flights will be allowed," the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization said on Friday, July 3, quoted by CNN International.
According to Tass, Khamenei's funeral is expected to take place at a number of locations in Iran and Iraq from July 4-9, and millions of people are expected to attend.
Russia, which has good relations with Iran, has sent the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation's National Security Council Dmitry Medvedev to attend the funeral ceremony for the father of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
Khamenei's body, along with the bodies of his family members who were also killed in the Israeli-US attack on February 28, has now arrived at the Grand Mosalla complex in Tehran.
