Travel is predicted to grow, this is the favorite destination for Indonesian tourists

JAKARTA - Travel is expected to continue to grow through 2026. A number of cities in Indonesia remain the public's favorite destinations, while interest in traveling to various countries in Asia to East Asia continues to increase.

Traveloka's Chief Financial Officer, Yady Guitana, revealed that travel trends showed that Indonesian tourists still chose big cities and flagship tourist destinations in the country, accompanied by an increase in interest in a number of countries in the Asian region.

"For favorite destinations, domestically we see Surabaya, Bandung, Jakarta, and Bali are still the main choices for tourists. Meanwhile, for travel abroad, destinations in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam remain the favorite," said Yady Guitana, Chief Financial Officer of Traveloka at The St. Regis Jakarta on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

"In addition, we also see the interest of the Indonesian people to travel to Japan, South Korea, and China continues to increase in the past year," he continued.

According to him, this increased interest is supported by the increasing ease of tourists in obtaining information, comparing prices, to booking travel tickets and accommodation through digital platforms.

"At Traveloka, we help travelers find the most suitable accommodation at the right time. Now, this is further supported by our ability to understand the needs of travelers even before they have a mature travel plan," said Yady.

Yady added that the use of regional data and artificial intelligence (AI) technology also helps provide a booking experience that is increasingly relevant for each user.

"When leading hospitality companies, such as Marriott, choose to expand their portfolio reach through an all-in-one travel platform like ours, it reflects the trust of the world's leading travel brands in Traveloka's reach and our understanding of traveler behavior in Southeast Asia," he concluded.

"By combining Marriott's world-class portfolio with Traveloka's regional data and AI-based recommendations, we can deliver a more relevant booking experience while supporting Marriott's sustainable business growth in the region," he added.

Interest in Marriott properties on Traveloka also continues to show growth, seen from the increasing search and booking of hotels in various cities in Indonesia and the Asia Pacific region.

Currently, Marriott operates nearly 90 properties in Indonesia and continues to expand its network through various new projects. This collaboration is expected to make it easier for travelers to find accommodations that suit their needs while supporting the growth of the tourism industry in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
