Not Only Doctors, Nurses Play a Major Role in Determining the Quality of Hospital Services

JAKARTA - The quality of service at a hospital is not only determined by the sophistication of medical technology or the competence of doctors, but also by nursing services that accompany patients during treatment.

Nurses in this case are health workers who interact the most with patients, ranging from monitoring conditions, providing education, to ensuring that patient needs are met while in the hospital.

Various studies show that the quality of nursing practice is closely related to patient safety. Hospitals that implement evidence-based nursing practices tend to have lower complication rates, better coordination of services, and more positive patient experiences during treatment.

The importance of the role of nurses in health services has again become a concern after two hospitals under the Siloam International Hospitals network, namely Siloam Hospitals Kebon Jeruk and Siloam Hospitals Lippo Village, received the Magnet® with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

This confession is one indicator that nursing practices in hospitals are judged to meet international standards in terms of leadership, service quality, and clinical outcomes.

In practice, nursing services are not only focused on medical actions, but also building good communication with patients and families.

This approach is considered capable of increasing patient involvement in the decision-making process related to treatment while creating a more comfortable treatment experience.

Siloam International Hospitals CEO, Caroline Riady, said the quality of health services cannot be separated from the role of nurses who accompany patients during the treatment process.

"Magnet® with Distinction is not just an award for our institution. This recognition reflects the commitment of Siloam nurses who are present every day to accompany patients and their families in every stage of the treatment journey,"

"We believe that the combination of clinical excellence and compassionate care is the foundation of quality health services. When patients feel heard, understood, and treated with empathy, it can have a positive impact on their experience and treatment outcomes," Caroline said in a statement to VOI, Friday, July 3.

Quality nursing services are also supported by the sustainable development of health worker competencies. In addition to clinical skills, nurses are required to have communication, leadership skills, and be able to work together with other health workers so that the treatment process runs integrated.

Nursing General Manager of Siloam International Hospitals, Jessi Rahardja, said that modern nursing practice does not only rely on experience, but also emphasizes a scientific evidence-based approach and collaboration between medical teams.

"This is proof that nursing is a profession based on evidence, leadership, and collaboration, with a real impact on patients. The results can be felt directly through increasingly consistent services, better coordination, and a more optimal treatment experience for patients,"

"For all Siloam nurses, this achievement is something historic. However, this is not the peak of what you can do, but a reflection of the dedication and professionalism that you present every day in caring for patients," said Jessi.

Strengthening the nursing profession needs to be one of the important aspects in improving the quality of hospital services. Not only playing a role in supporting the healing process, nurses are also the front line in ensuring that patients receive assistance, information, and care that is appropriate for their needs during treatment.
