Minister of Culture encourages NuArt to be an example of a space for art that grows from the initiative of artists

BANDUNG - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon encourages the birth of more art spaces built from community initiatives. According to him, a model like NuArt Sculpture Park in Bandung can strengthen the national cultural ecosystem while expanding space for artists to work and collaborate.

When visiting the NuArt Sculpture Park in Bandung, Friday (3/7), Fadli reviewed the collection of works by the sculpture maestro Nyoman Nuarta, performance facilities, galleries, and museums that are being developed. He also discussed the development of the area as a center for art and culture.

Fadli appreciated Nyoman Nuarta's consistency which for decades not only produced art works, but also built cultural spaces that can be used by the community.

"NuArt Sculpture Park is not only a museum that exhibits the works of Nyoman Nuarta. This place is also a learning, appreciation, and collaboration space that contributes significantly to the advancement of Indonesian culture," said Fadli.

According to him, cultural spaces such as NuArt show how art is able to record the journey of a nation while inspiring the next generation.

Fadli also assessed Nyoman Nuarta's work had made a major contribution to the development of Indonesian fine art. A number of his monumental works are now icons in various regions, including Garuda Wisnu Kencana in Bali, works in the Nusantara Capital, Mandalika, the National Museum of Indonesia, and a number of other public spaces.

"Pak Nyoman Nuarta never stopped working. When artists take the initiative to build cultural spaces independently, the national cultural ecosystem will become stronger," he said.

Nyoman Nuarta said the development of the NuArt Sculpture Park came from his desire to present an art center that can be used by various creative communities, especially in Bandung.

"Bandung needs an art center with adequate facilities. My hope is that this place will become a common home for artists to work, exhibit, and collaborate, as well as an example for other regions in building a living art space," said Nyoman.

During the visit, Fadli was accompanied by, among others, the Special Staff of the Minister for Protocol and Household Rachmanda Primayudha, the Advisor to the Minister for Strategy Development and Museum Management Optimization and Chairman of the Indonesian Museum Association Putu Supadma Rudana, Director of History and Museum Agus Mulyana, and Head of the West Java Cultural Preservation Agency Retno Raswaty.

NuArt Sculpture Park has long been known as one of the contemporary art destinations in Indonesia. In addition to showcasing Nyoman Nuarta's creative journey through monumental sculpture works, the area has also evolved into a cultural space that combines a museum, gallery, performance area, and public interaction space.

The Ministry of Culture stated that it would continue to strengthen collaboration with museums, communities, art spaces, and cultural actors in various regions to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and competitive cultural ecosystem.
