Russia Points the Finger at Ukrainian Security Service Behind Bombing of Monaco Businessman in Attempt to Kill English: Russia Points the Finger at Ukrainian Security Service Behind Bombing of Monaco Businessman in Attempt to Kill
JAKARTA - The assassination attempt on Ukrainian businessman Vadim Yermolayev in Monaco is suspected of involving the Ukrainian security service (SBU).
The accusation was made by the Russian Foreign Ministry's Extraordinary Ambassador, Rodion Miroshnik.
"There is no doubt that the Ukrainian security service, people from the intelligence circle, as well as criminal groups are involved in this case," Miroshnik told the Russian news agency, RIA Novosti, reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 3.
According to Miroshnik, such incidents will continue to increase unless Ukraine receives a stern reprimand or punishment from the international community.
However, he assessed that so far there has been no indication that the international community is willing to impose sanctions on Ukraine for the incident.
A powerful explosion rocked Monaco on Monday evening local time.
Local authorities confirmed that the incident injured three people, consisting of a man, a woman, and a child.
The communication company Silver Eye, which represents Yermolayev, later confirmed that the businessman and his son were injured in the explosion.
French newspaper Le Figaro, citing police sources on June 29, reported that two of the three injured victims were in critical condition.
Based on surveillance camera (CCTV) footage, an unidentified man was seen leaving a backpack at the entrance of the building shortly before others entered.
In response to this incident, the Minister of State of Monaco Christophe Mirmand described the incident as the first terrorist attack in the history of the principality.
However, Monaco's Attorney General Stephane Thibault said that based on preliminary data, the explosion had not been classified as a terrorist attack.
Meanwhile, Le Figaro reported that the priority scenario of the Monaco investigation team is currently pointing to the suspicion that the explosion was instigated by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU).
The action is suspected to be a form of a stern warning to the businessman.
