ABC Indonesia Supports BPOM in Strengthening the Food Industry Risk Management Program
JAKARTA - PT Heinz ABC Indonesia (ABC Indonesia) participated in the 2026 National Coordination Forum for Commercial Sterile Food entitled "One Decade of Risk Management Program: Acceleration of the Growth of Competitive Commercial Sterile Food Production Facilities" which was held by the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) in Jakarta. The holding of this forum is also part of the commemoration of World Food Safety Day (World Food Safety Day) 2026.
The Risk Management Program (PMR) was launched by BPOM since 2015 as an effort to encourage the independence of the processed food industry in carrying out its main responsibility for food safety.
Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., Ph.D., Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), said that for a decade, the Risk Management Program (PMR) has proven that independent internal supervision (self-control) by the industry is able to significantly reduce food safety risks, ranging from the stage of good manufacturing process (good manufacturing process) to packaging.
"The success of this program cannot be separated from the commitment of major industry players who are the driving force in implementing strict standards to ensure consumer protection. We are optimistic that the consistent implementation of PMR will foster a sense of collective responsibility that will boost the quality and competitiveness of the national food industry in the global arena," he said in a written statement, Friday, July 3.
As part of the forum's series of activities, BPOM in collaboration with the Indonesian Food and Beverage Entrepreneurs Association (GAPMMI) held an Exhibition of Commercial Sterile Food Ecosystem Education. ABC Indonesia also participated in the exhibition to share good practices related to the implementation of food safety systems and Risk Management Programs in Companies.
Mira Buanawati, General Counsel and Head of Corporate Affairs of PT Heinz ABC Indonesia, said that ABC Indonesia's participation in this activity is a manifestation of its commitment to supporting the government's efforts to increase public and business actors' understanding, especially micro, small, and medium enterprises, regarding the importance of safe and quality commercial sterile food.
"Through this opportunity, we also share experiences regarding the implementation of the Risk Management Program at our production facilities, including ABC Sardines products and UHT products processed through a comprehensive sterilization stage to ensure product safety, quality, and consistency for consumers," said Mira.
According to Mira, food safety is not only related to compliance with regulations, but also a form of corporate responsibility in consumer protection and strengthening the competitiveness of the national food industry.
"This commitment is in line with the value of 'Doing the Right Thing' in ABC Indonesia's operations. We always ensure compliance with applicable regulations while considering food safety as a shared responsibility to protect consumers. We believe that collaboration between regulators, industry, and society is an important factor in creating a safer and competitive food system," he explained.
As a food producer who has implemented the Risk Management Program, ABC Indonesia continues to prioritize the implementation of strict food safety standards throughout the production process to ensure safe and quality products for consumers. Among others by implementing a layered standardization system, starting from the Good Processed Food Production Method (CPPOB), which is required by BPOM as the authority for the safety of processed food in Indonesia, as well as the world food safety management system (ISO 22000: 2018 and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)). All ABC products are also certified halal.
