Food Security is the Foundation of Community Nutrition in Supporting Healthy Lifestyle
JAKARTA - Healthy eating patterns are not only determined by the choice of nutritious menus or adequacy of protein, vitamin, and mineral intake. Behind every food ingredient consumed, there is a long process that ensures food reaches the dining table in a safe, quality, and available condition all the time.
Food security is not just about abundant agricultural production. Behind every food consumed by the community there is a long distribution chain. Starting from the harvesting process, storage, transportation, to distribution to various regions must run well so that food quality is maintained.
Efficient food distribution has an important role in maintaining the nutritional value of food. Improper handling can lead to a decrease in quality, damage, and even food waste. As a result, the community is at risk of losing access to nutritious food at affordable prices.
In an archipelago country like Indonesia, ports are one of the main distribution nodes for food. Various commodities such as rice, fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, and other staple foods are distributed through the sea route to various regions.
When the logistics process runs smoothly, the food supply becomes more stable so that the community can more easily obtain quality food.
In addition to maintaining food availability, a good distribution system also contributes to reducing logistics costs. As a result, food prices become more stable so that people can meet their family's nutritional needs without being burdened by significant price spikes.
Currently, food distribution management is also beginning to prioritize the principle of sustainability. The use of digital technology, energy efficiency, and environmental management are important parts in ensuring that the food supply chain continues to run effectively and environmentally friendly.
This approach supports the sustainability of the food system in the long term so that future generations still have access to safe and nutritious food.
The government continues to encourage the transformation of the logistics and port sectors so that they can support national food security.
The Coordinating Ministry for Food and Agriculture together with IDSurvey held a series of ASRI 2026 Green and Smart Port Initiatives (GSPI) agendas as a follow-up to the results of the 2025 Green and Smart Port Assessment which had been carried out by IDSurvey at eight ports in Indonesia.
Carrying the theme "Green Today, Smart Tomorrow, Food Security Forever", GSPI ASRI 2026 is a platform for collaboration to encourage ports in Indonesia to implement best practices in environmental management, operational efficiency, and service digitization.
This program is one of the efforts to accelerate the transformation of the national port sector as a logistics distribution node that plays an important role in maintaining the smooth flow of inter-regional food, reducing logistics costs, increasing supply chain efficiency, and maintaining the stability of national food supply and prices.
Deputy for Coordination of Trade and Food Distribution of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Tatang Yuliono, emphasized the importance of port transformation in supporting food security.
"Ports are strategic nodes in the national food supply chain. Through the ASRI 2026 Green and Smart Port Initiatives (GSPI), we want to encourage the realization of a port that is not only efficient and competitive, but also sustainable and adaptive to technological developments," said Tatang, quoted from an official statement. IDSurvey.
"The synergy of the government, business actors, and all stakeholders is the key to increasing the effectiveness of logistics that can ensure the smooth distribution of food, as well as increase Indonesia's competitiveness at the global level," said Tatang.
Through the strengthening of a more modern logistics and distribution system, it is hoped that people's access to safe, quality, and nutritious food can be more evenly distributed. This is an important foundation in building a healthy society while supporting the realization of national food security in a sustainable manner.
The ASRI 2026 Green and Smart Port Initiatives (GSPI) is a collaboration program between the Coordinating Ministry for Food and Agriculture and IDSurvey to encourage a more environmentally friendly, efficient, and digital-based port transformation.
Through assessment and assistance in the implementation of best practices, this program is expected to increase national logistics efficiency and strengthen food distribution as part of efforts to support Indonesia's food security.
