PLN Boss Assures There Will Be No More Intermittent Blackouts on Java Island

JAKARTA - President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo ensures that there will be no more rotational power outages in the Java Island area. According to him, currently the electricity system on the island of Java has returned to being reliable so that similar incidents do not recur.

"The condition of the Java distribution system, especially in Java, has not been there since June 21, 2026," said Darmawan in a Public Hearing with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Thursday, July 2.

He explained that to overcome the alternating blackout, his party added medium-calorific coal supplies, namely above 4,500 kcal/kg, to power plants.

On the other hand, PLN also received an additional allocation of coal supplies of 1.8 million tons outside the existing supply for July. To ensure the reliability of the plant until the end of the year, PLN also received coal supplies of 3 million tons in August to December.

With this additional supply, continued Darmawan, PLN can increase the ability to supply the Java electricity system by around 5 Giga Watt (GW) from the previous 35.9 GW.

"Here there is an addition to the power capacity of 5 gigawatt above 35.9 gigawatt which of course this makes the system of distribution on the island of Java much more reliable," said Darmawan.
