A Soldier is Missing as a US Navy Helicopter Makes an Emergency Landing in the Arabian Sea

JAKARTA - Three soldiers were injured and another one missing when their MH-60S Seahawk helicopter made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea on Wednesday, the US military said.

The three injured military members were reported to be in stable condition, while there was no indication that the incident was caused by an enemy.

"US Navy assets in the area are currently searching for another aircrew still missing," the US Navy's 5th Fleet said in a statement, citing Al Arabiya from Reuters (2/7).

"The cause of the incident is under investigation," he continued, adding that the helicopter was deployed to the region aboard the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) aircraft carrier.

Landing a helicopter in water can be dangerous, even for experienced pilots, given the tendency of heavy aircraft at the top to flip over when diving.

US forces in the region are also on high alert amid periodic escalations of violence during the US-Iranian ceasefire.
