PM Anwar Ibrahim: US not involved in revoking Norway's missile export permit to Malaysia
JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed receiving confirmation from the United States that the country did not participate in the revocation of the export permit or license for the Naval Strike Missile (NSM/Norwegian naval attack missile to Malaysia.
"I have received confirmation from the United States through Foreign Minister Marco Rubio that the country is not involved, let alone influencing Norway to act in this way," Anwar said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur, Thursday, July 2, as reported by ANTARA.
Anwar expressed his regret over Norway's actions regarding the recent cancellation of the NSM missile export permit to Malaysia.
"I emphasize that this is not how Norway should treat strategic partners like Malaysia," said Anwar Ibrahim.
Previously, Anwar directly expressed his objection to the revocation of the export permit or license for the Naval Strike Missile (NSM/naval attack missile) to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store through a telephone conversation.
"I have conveyed Malaysia's strong objection in a telephone conversation with the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Store, regarding Norway's unilateral and unacceptable decision to revoke the export license of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) system and its launch system, under the pretext of protecting Norway's security," said Anwar.
Anwar emphasized that Malaysia has fulfilled every obligation in this contract since 2018 carefully, in good faith, and without the slightest doubt.
"However, it seems that Norway does not feel the need to show the same attitude to us or to uphold this good faith," said Anwar.
