Three Solois Give New Perspectives to Yovie & Nuno's Hit Single
JAKARTA - A hit that is 25 years old is re-energized in 2026. Yovie & Nuno introduce a new version of the song Kamu Bukan Kekasihku with three young soloists, Meiska Prinsa Mandagie, and Aruma.
The presence of this project gives a different perspective, try to convey it through the perspective of women. The tone and lyrics that are familiar to the ears of the listeners also feel unique.
"Actually, this new version of "You're Not My Lover" was born out of our curiosity, like what if this song was originally sung by a guy, this time it was re-performed from a female POV. The story being told will definitely be different," said Muchamad Ahadiyat, or Kang Diat, Yovie & Nuno's guitarist in a written statement.
This collaboration itself began with Yovie & Nuno's desire to explore with these three young soloists. However, their chemistry during the concert preparations gave rise to the belief to combine the three of them in one work.
"Initially, we wanted to work with Meiske, Prinsa, and Aruma on a unit project. But when preparing for the 25th anniversary concert of Yovie & Nuno yesterday, it turned out that the three of them were also fun when they were put together. We also decided to try, while following Mas Yovie's intuition," explained vocalist Adi Julian.
Involving three different creative souls, each singer's interpretation is a strength. The same song is believed to be able to present a different meaning when it is brought by a different vocal character.
That is also the biggest challenge, namely when dividing the vocals so that the characters of each singer remain prominent without losing the unity of the song or their distinctive features.
"The challenge is the selection of the party and the breaking of the vote. That's the most troublesome," said Kang Diat.
The release of this single also opens up the possibility of a new mini album for the pop band known for its light love song themes.
"We briefly discussed wanting to create an IP for a project like this with the name 'JELITA'. But, we'll see what the development is like."
Through this single, Yovie & Nuno hope "Kamu Bukan Kekasihku" can present a new perspective, especially from the way the current generation interprets relationships in the midst of changing times and social media developments.
"Hopefully this song has a new POV, besides from the female perspective, maybe also generationally. Now, the situation has shifted quite a bit because of the progress of time and technology. In the era of social media like today, we certainly want to know, what kind of relationship should be fought for or should be remembered even though we can't be together," they concluded.
