Police opens recruitment for athletes and people with disabilities, talent scouting expanded

BOGOR - The National Police has changed the recruitment pattern by opening a special lane for outstanding athletes and people with disabilities. This step is part of human resource reform which is claimed to prioritize the merit system, transparency, and the use of technology.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo conveyed this when reporting his institution's achievements to President Prabowo Subianto at the 80th Bhayangkara Day Ceremony at the Satlat Brimob Cikeas, Bogor Regency, Wednesday (1/7).

According to the National Police Chief, the update of the recruitment system was carried out as a follow-up to the recommendations of the National Police Reform Acceleration Commission. The selection now involves internal and external supervision, including Kompolnas, the Ombudsman, and universities.

One of the prominent changes is the implementation of a talent scouting track. Through this scheme, as many as 160 athletes who have appeared in the SEA Games, National Sports Week (PON), and various other championships are given the opportunity to join the ranks of the National Police.

"Proactive recruitment is carried out to recruit the best talents who can serve through the Polri institution," said the National Police Chief.

The National Police has also expanded access for people with disabilities. This year, as many as 21 people with disabilities were accepted as part of the Bhayangkara Corps.

Reform does not stop at the recruitment process. Listyo said that improvements were also made to the education system, career development, to the treatment of personnel to build a meritocratic, transparent, accountable, and ethical human resources management.

On the service side, the National Police continues to expand digitization through the Polri Super Apps which provides SKCK services, SIM extension, STNK, police consultation, to public complaints channels. The 110 emergency service is now operating in 34 Polda and 508 Polres with a target response time of maximum 10 seconds.
