Quartararo and Rins Officially Split with Yamaha at the End of the 2026 Season
JAKARTA - Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins officially parted ways with Yamaha at the end of the 2026 MotoGP racing season. The announcement of the names that will replace their positions in the Japanese manufacturer's team is also expected to be carried out in the near future.
Yamaha has confirmed through their official statement on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. World champion Jorge Martin and Japanese rider Ai Ogura are the strongest candidates to join the Garpu Tala team to replace the two names above.
"Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. announces that Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins will end their cooperation with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team at the end of MotoGP 2026," read the statement from MotoGP on their official website.
Quartararo joined the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP project in 2019 and spent most of his career there. He also quickly established himself as one of the best talents in this sport and a fan favorite after joining.
The French racer made his debut at Yamaha in 2019 with the Petronas Satellite Yamaha SRT team. He then moved to the Factory team in 2021 and immediately won the MotoGP World Championship title that year.
Quartararo produced 11 victories and 32 podiums during his time with Yamaha. However, their relationship has been strained in recent years as the performance of the YZR-M1 motorcycle has declined.
Meanwhile, Rins joined Yamaha in 2024, but he struggled to repeat his brilliant performance as he was at Suzuki and Honda. The Spanish rider will most likely not be on the grid in next year's race.
Paolo Pavesio as Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing Managing Director admitted that Quartararo and Rins both played an important role in Yamaha's MotoGP project. He also thanked their efforts, dedication, and collaboration over the years.
"Although saying goodbye is never easy after so many years together, we remain fully focused on working as a team to achieve the best possible results until the end of the season," he said.
Martin and Ogura, who are candidates for replacements, are currently defending Aprilia and Trackhous Racing MotoGP. Yamaha will likely issue an official statement in the coming days regarding the recruitment of the two names.
