Three Indonesian Athletes Fight for Tickets to the 2026 U-20 Athletics World Championships
JAKARTA - Three young Indonesian athletes have managed to get tickets to compete in the 2026 U-20 World Athletics Championship or the 2026 World Athletics U-20 Championship which will take place on August 5-9 in Oregon, USA.
They qualified for the prestigious tournament after successfully breaking the qualification limit in the Indonesia Open Athletics Championship and the 2026 National Championship for U-16, U-18, and U-20 at the Rawamangun Athletics Stadium, Jakarta, on June 27-30.
Secretary General of the Indonesian All-Indonesia Athletic Association (PB PASI), Jodi Mahardi, said that the Indonesian athletes' qualification for important events such as the World Championships is proof that the coaching has been in accordance with the standards.
"This achievement is proof that our youth training has begun to touch international standards. However, I want the athletes not to be satisfied because this is only the first step," he said in a statement.
The three athletes are Shava S. Warangga from Central Java in the women's 100 meter race, Hoshi Fatihah Azharah from East Java in the women's 200 meter race, and Anugrah Setiawan Pujo from East Java in the men's 110 meter hurdles.
Jodi emphasized that the PB PASI will prepare a follow-up preparation program so that the three athletes not only come as participants, but also have the readiness to compete at the highest level of the world's young age group.
"Our focus now is to mature their technical and mental preparations so that later we will not just participate, but dare to compete and compete against the world's elite athletes," he said.
Successfully sending three athletes to the United States is one of the important achievements of the 2026 Indonesia Open and Kejurnas U-16, U-18, and U-20 which were attended by around 1,000 athletes from various provinces in Indonesia as well as a number of foreign participants.
Their participation on the world stage is very important to strengthen the continuity of national athletic training, especially in preparing a layer of young athletes towards the multi-branch agenda and international championships in the future.
