Xpeng Wins 2 Cases of Defamation

JAKARTA - Xpeng Group through its Legal Department announced that it had won two defamation cases in China. The legal action was taken as an effort by the company to maintain its reputation after a number of media and individuals allegedly spread false information, insults, and defamation allegations related to the company's operations.

In a statement delivered on June 30, Xpeng's Legal Department revealed that the Guangzhou Internet Court had handed down a first-instance ruling on a defamation case involving Liu Hongbin and Zhang Liang in March 2026.

Launching from Carnewschina, Wednesday, July 1, the court ordered Liu Hongbin to make a public apology through his Toutiao, Sohu, and NetEase accounts using the name "Wo Shi Benbo Erba".

In addition, Zhang Liang is also required to make a public apology through the Baijiahao account "Longche Auto", as well as compensate Xpeng for the losses incurred. Until this news was written, the amount of compensation had not been announced.

Xpeng's Legal Department confirmed that the digital space is not a territory free from legal consequences. The company ensures that it will continue to take legal action to protect its legitimate rights and interests. Xpeng also expressed its appreciation to consumers and media partners for the support they have provided so far.

The statement is considered a step to dampen the spread of disinformation ahead of the debut of the Mona L03 fastback SUV which is scheduled to take place on July 2 in China. Xpeng Mona L03 comes as a compact SUV with dimensions of 4,650 mm x 1,920 mm x 1,600 mm.

The pure electric variant (BEV) is equipped with a single electric motor with a power of 183 kW or around 245 hp which is combined with two options for LFP batteries with a capacity of 56 kWh and 69 kWh. Based on the CLTC standard, this vehicle offers a range of between 505 km and 650 km.

Meanwhile, the Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) version uses the same electric motor and is combined with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 70 kW or about 94 hp as a generator. In full electric mode, this variant is claimed to be able to travel up to 257 km.

Previously, CarNewsChina reported that a number of courts in China had ordered those found to have defamed BYD, Great Wall Motor, and Xpeng to remove defamatory content, make a public apology, and pay compensation of up to 2 million yuan.

In January 2026, the court also ruled that a blogger who spread misleading claims regarding the consumption of fuel for the Denza B5 SUV was required to pay compensation of 2 million yuan to BYD. A similar case also occurred in February 2026.

Huawei's Maextro brand won a defamation lawsuit against an automotive influencer in China with a ruling to pay compensation of 300,000 yuan. In the same month, Xiaomi Auto recorded a legal victory with the largest compensation value, namely 5 million yuan in a defamation case.
