Bhayangkara's 80th Anniversary, Bamsoet asks the National Police to accelerate transformation to face digital crime
Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) asked the National Police to use the 80th anniversary of Bhayangkara as an opportunity to accelerate the transformation of institutions in the face of increasingly complex crime threats, especially crimes based on digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Bamsoet, the challenges faced by the National Police are no longer limited to conventional crimes. New modes such as cyber attacks, cross-border digital fraud, identity theft, human trafficking, money laundering, and the misuse of deepfake technology require law enforcement officers to have more modern capabilities and systems.
"The age of 80 is the maturity phase of the National Police institution. This momentum must be used to accelerate the transformation of the Precision National Police so that it is more professional, modern, humanistic, adaptive to technological developments, and at the same time more trusted by the community," said Bamsoet in Jakarta, Wednesday (1/7).
The Chairman of the 15th MPR RI assessed that the transformation of the National Police was not enough just through internal improvement. Public services must also be faster, more transparent, accountable, and able to respond to community needs.
He said that technological developments made crime patterns change very quickly. Therefore, the National Police needs to strengthen its digital forensic capacity, improve the quality of human resources, expand international cooperation, and accelerate the use of technology in the law enforcement system.
"When crimes take advantage of cutting-edge technology, law enforcement officers must also have more advanced capabilities, devices, and systems so that they can provide maximum protection to the community," he said.
Bamsoet also reminded that security stability has a direct relationship with national economic growth. Legal certainty and a sense of security are important factors to maintain the investment climate, support industrial downstreaming, infrastructure development, the digital economy, and the energy transition.
Therefore, the National Police is considered to have a strategic role in supporting the national development agenda towards the Golden Indonesia 2045.
In addition to encouraging transformation, Bamsoet appreciates the various improvements made by the National Police in recent years, ranging from the digitization of public services, increased transparency, to openness to criticism. He said that the trend of increasing public confidence must be maintained through consistent services and fair law enforcement.
"Public trust is an achievement that has been achieved through hard work and must continue to be maintained. The police, which is increasingly trusted, will become a glue of unity, a guard of democracy, a guard of economic stability, and a protector of the community," he said.
