JAKARTA - Public enthusiasm for tourism continues to increase, as more and more options and ease in finding travel inspiration. Data from the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia recorded 319.5 million domestic trips in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 13.1 percent compared to the same period last year.

Risma initially used TikTok to upload documentation of his personal journey to record experiences, save memories, and share the places he visited from his personal point of view.

"Initially, I used TikTok as my personal digital travel diary in between my busy work as an office employee. Unexpectedly, it turned out that the content attracted the attention of fellow travel enthusiasts on TikTok," said Risma.

Over time, Risma began to realize that her uploads were no longer just personal documentation, but could also encourage others to find new destinations. He felt this when he became one of the first creators to visit UP at Thamrin Nine, the latest observation deck tour in Jakarta last year and the Sea Horse exhibition presented by BXSea in Bintaro, South Tangerang, this year.

After sharing several videos related to his experience visiting the tourist attraction, Risma admitted that he was contacted by the management team who said that many visitors came after knowing the location thanks to his content on TikTok.

"From there I realized that as a creator, the impact of content is not only seen from the number of views, but also from the many comments from the audience who then actually visited the location that I recommended. The content I made turned out to not only generate engagement, but also help drive measurable increases in visits," added Risma.

As the audience grows, Risma also receives more and more messages from users asking for recommendations for destinations, hotels, and activities that are worth trying. According to him, many people now use TikTok as a starting reference when planning a trip because they can see experiences that feel more authentic, relevant, and close to the daily lives of other users.

For Risma, this shows that content is no longer only a source of inspiration, but is also increasingly influencing travel decisions and opening up opportunities for businesses to reach more potential visitors.

A similar story comes from Jeje, a creator who initially focused on content related to food and the creative industry in Bandung, before later expanding his focus to tourism and travel. After exploring his preferred content category, Jeje observed that people's interest in travel is now more diverse.

Audiences are not only looking for popular destinations, but also experiences that feel more personal, ranging from staycations, creative activities, culinary exploration, to local culture.

"I see more and more people looking for travel recommendations that are close to their interests, not just popular destinations. Some are looking for places to staycation, creative activities, local cuisine, or cultural experiences that feel more personal," said Jeje, TikTok GO creator who was nominated for Accommodation Creator of The Year from TikTok GO last year.

Seeing the existing trends, Jeje decided to join TikTok GO to present content that not only inspires, but also helps the audience find experiences they can try directly. Jeje believes that travel content can help bring audiences together with local business players. He felt this when he uploaded a video about the Grand Tebu Hotel in Bandung in the #JelajahHappy campaign on TikTok.

After the content aired, the hotel said that Jeje's content not only helped increase netizen visits to the hotel's official social media accounts, but also helped the conversion process to sales.

"From that experience, I saw that content can help people find new places, while also having an impact on local businesses. That's also what makes me more convinced that the recommendations shared through TikTok can encourage people to try new experiences," added Jeje.

For Risma and Jeje, the biggest impact of the content they create is when the recommendations they share really encourage the audience to try new experiences or visit the places they showcase.
