Frank Sanchez has a chance to meet Moses Itauma for the IBF Heavyweight World Title.
JAKARTA - Frank Sanchez has the opportunity to face the undefeated young British boxer, Moses Itauma, to compete for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight world champion belt.
Oleksandr Usyk previously relinquished his IBF title, as well as his WBA and WBC belts last week. The decision puts Sanchez in the forefront as a title challenger due to his status as the IBF's number one ranked boxer.
Mike Borao as Sanchez's manager said that Itauma could be a very potential opponent for his client.
"My hope is that Moses Itauma may be able to become Frank Sanchez's opponent in the near future, but we have to wait and see who he ends up facing for the vacant title," Borao said, quoted by Sky Sports.
The IBF had previously ordered Sanchez and Itauma to fight in an eliminator final match in September last year. However, the duel was eventually canceled after Itauma's party rejected the opportunity.
Borao admitted that he was very surprised when Moses Itauma's party refused to undergo the final eliminator match against Frank.
"Moses is an amazing talent with great potential. I'm a fan of Moses, but the fight against Frank is probably too soon because he's still young and there are other paths for him to become a champion," he said.
Itauma already has a fight agenda against Filip Hrgovic on August 29, 2026. The winner of the duel has the potential to be Sanchez's opponent for the IBF title.
Itauma's last fight was against Jermaine Franklin from the United States in March 2026 in Manchester, England. Itauma won the duel after knocking out his opponent in the fifth round.
However, Hrgovic will certainly be a tough test for the 21-year-old fighter. The reason is that the Croatian fighter has a record of victory over Zhilei Zhang and Joe Joyce.
Meanwhile, Sanchez bounced back after suffering his only defeat in his career against the latest WBC champion, Agit Kabayel. The Cuban boxer was interrupted by a serious knee injury in the fight.
Sanchez then showed off his incredible performance by destroying Richard Torrez Jr. in front of his training partner, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, in May 2026. The victory made him a mandatory challenger for the IBF title.
Borao is very optimistic that Frank Sanchez will become the first Cuban heavyweight world champion in 2026. He is very confident that his client is ready to face anyone in the ring.
"In the end, it doesn't matter who the opponent is because as I always say, a healthy Frank Sanchez with coach Eddy Reynoso and Canelo at his corner can beat anyone," he said.
